The Job Hunt

Recently I have noticed a lot of people looking for jobs and realized that I know a lot of sources that many people do not know about to look for employment. Here are a few of them that I use regularly that have gained me employment in the past:

  • Peters New Jobs
  • Indeed.ca
  • Kijiji
  • My Career Zone (Algonquin College Students Only)
  • Workopolis
  • Monster
  • Craigslist
  • Wow Jobs
  • LinkedIn
  • Reddit
  • Word of Mouth/Networking
  • and Company Websites
I'm sure there are a few more that I forgot to mention but these are the key ones that I have had success with, mainly Indeed.ca and LinkedIn. On Indeed.ca I tend to send out a lot of resumes but on LinkedIn I find that recruiters tend to contact me at least once per week based on my skills (this won't be the same for everyone).

One method that I also did not mention is just walking around and seeing who has "hiring" signs hanging in their windows or at their store front. Even if there isn't a "hiring" sign speaking to a manager is a good idea as some places do not advertise that they are hiring.

Breaking Up

Nordstrom,

It looks like I'm on the hunt for another job again since things with you didn't work out. Sorry Nordstrom, it's not you, it's me. I really enjoyed your company but I felt too pressured to do things that I don't think I was ready for. In my mind I couldn't do what you expected of me. I really am sorry for having to break it off. I am planning on moving on to bigger and better things since you are just a dead end for me right now. I hope we can still be the best of friends.

Love,

Reba

P.S. I was blinded by love for you...

Shenanigans...

Once again it has been awhile since I have updated this bad boy. Life has been kind of insane lately here's the run down:

  • had to switch sections (school)
  • glum news (family)
  • group fell apart (school)
  • not sure where work is going
  • Fred (my kitten) is being a terror
  • etc. etc. etc. etc.
The list goes on but honestly it's too late for me to remember exactly what's going on in my own life. Sad I know right?

Right now I'm doing a survey for school and you all should fill it out (it only takes 6 minutes)!!! Here's the link:

http://algonquincollege.fluidsurveys.com/surveys/+AUWbNHfGnH7RXWhcZVnnqKrd2d/breakfast-eating-habits/

If you don't do this survey I will be very disappointed in you. Tried the guilt trip... did it work? I'm not sure if I ever posted a picture of Fred on here yet... but here's another one since he's so freaking cute!

What an adorable little munchkin!!! Too bad he's getting a lot bigger than that (updated pictures to come). Also got a fish tank (aquarium) the other day. No fish yet we're working on just making sure the tank is perfect first THEN going to add fish. It's also good empty right now so that Fred can get used to it being around. Earlier tonight he was sitting on the floor meowing at it and making really weird noises (weird cat). I know this will be one of my shorter blog submits BUT it's late and I'm tired. Scratch that I'm exhausted!!! Time for sleepy planet for me.

Oh and that survey... could you please fill it out? If you fill it out I will be your bestest friend forever!!!

It's been awhile (really)

Sorry it's been so long since I've written anything! This summer has been a crazy one indeed. A list of everything that I have done this summer includes:
1) Taking an extra course this summer to lighten my course load in the Fall.
2) Moving while I was taking this extra course (will never do THAT again).
3) OCMC preparations such as research and what not.
4) Got a kitten... His name is Fred.
5) Taking driving school and have 2 in class days left.
6) Preparing to get back to school.

So as you can see it's been fairly busy. I didn't include anytime that I've dedicated to playing Pokemon... I know loser right here but that's okay because I LOVE POKEMON!

You bet I will take that dangerous animal Professor Oak!!! Charmander is my usual choice (just putting that out there).

I just had OCMC boot camp today and to say the least it was interesting. A bit longer than I would have liked BUT got a lot of information. I almost felt like my brain was going to explode. I'm just looking forward to finding out what topic I will be covering when we go to Toronto in November. We still need $4,000 in funding to get us all to Toronto (that's a lot of money for us broke students). If anyone is awesome and willing to donate a little cash (even if it's only a dollar) they can do it here:

http://www.algonquincollege.com/ocmc/donate.htm

We still have a long way to go to get to our goal and could use the support. I personally could use the support with the financial aspect. It causes a lot of stress as everyone obviously knows.

Moving on from that!

I've finally taken the plunge and started taking driving classes... woohoo!!! It's about time I would have to say! It seems pretty trivial and I know most of the things that they are teaching us but HEY! If it gives me a discount on insurance in the long run why not!

My brain is turning to mush from boot camp today so I'm leaving this as is for now. If anyone wants to know any other details leave a comment or contact me. You know the drill.

Crazy Busy!!!

The past week/2 weeks has been insanely busy for me!!! First off I had to finish packing to move and also pack to go camping/white water rafting. It was honestly one of the best times I've ever had and I plan to go back and learn how to Kayak! Here's a picture of me on the raft... see if you can spot me ;)

Our guide Shawn/Sean (however you spell it) was awesome! He was a lot of fun and a really nice guy. We ended up partying with all of the guides that evening at their bonfire. Oh, forgot to mention the rafting was at RiverRun Ottawa. All the guys are awesome and really great people with a love and passion for rafting/kayaking/the river in general.

I also had a midterm in my summer class that I'm taking FML! It was a lot harder than I expected it to be! Apparently not many people did very well but we shall see when I get the results on Monday!

Another crazy thing is still going on/happening soon. I get the keys to my apartment on Sunday at 2:00pm! Am I ever nervous to leave my parents house and live on my own BUT I'm excited all the same! My parents will be empty nesters which honestly makes me a little bit nervous for them. Then again they could stand each other before my brother and I were around so they should be able to do it again.

My pet peeve lately has been 2/2:

  • People that are overly loud on the bus and yell over each other louder, LOUder, and LOUDER. If you all took turns speaking you would not have to yell over each other.
  • When people read their slides during a presentation and you feel like a 4 year old being read a bedtime story. When they are then asked questions and have no idea what to respond with since they just copied and pasted to their slides without analyzing the information.
So this Sunday KEYS! We shall see how everything else ends up going! I will try to keep you guys posted but probably won't be writing again until things calm down a lot more. Wish me luck with moving and hopefully I don't lose anything... even though I think I already have lost a huge amount of things *sigh*.

See you all on the flip slide!

knows it's been forever!

Life has been crazy at the moment! Lots of different stuff happening i.e. busy at work, moving soon(ish), and taking a night course in school. It's not THAT much stuff but it's a lot for me to handle at the moment... since it is supposed to be summer and all. ANYWAYS... What else was been going on upstairs.

Saw the Avengers last week...

I'm not sure how I feel about it. It was very well done and had a lot of action and even some romance (and what not). Since I've been hearing about this movie since the first Iron Man came out I was expecting LEGENDARY!!! Well I thought it was good but doesn't really deserve the status of legendary. I loved all of the actors and the story line stayed fairly true to the comics but I just expected more. People have already called me crazy but it's okay.

Next on the list I saw The Raven the other night...

It was really well done! If you're familiar with any of Poe's work you might find it a little hard to follow at some points but they kept it overall pretty simple. It was gory, which was nice, and also has that mysterious edge. I didn't think it was going to end the way it did (before the park bench). Just saying I was a little surprised but most people should know about the park bench in Baltimore. Anyways I suggest people go out and see it if you like history based movies with gore.

The next movie I am SO looking forward to seeing is DARK SHADOWS!!!

Will try to keep this bad boy updated and will let all my readers know when I see this!

EXAM WEEK!

Exam week is killing me!!! I'm SO stressed out right now and I know a lot of other people are too. If some people aren't they've probably been in the position before.

So much has been going on lately I work a lot more now, go to school, am starting a spring class soon, and have somewhat of a social life as well as fundraising. I am so freaking tired it isn't even funny! Tomorrow night I plan to sleep ALL night. Sleeping in until 12pm the next day is ideal at this point.

ANYWAYS! I will leave a better post after this exam madness is over!

For everyone that is in exams good luck!
